Probably we already have experienced having chapped lips especially on the corners of our mouth one time or another. If you had it, the annoyance that accompanies this infection is usually unforgettable because having lesions on the corner of your mouth is not only painful but also embarrassing. This skin disorder is now commonly known as Angular Cheilosis, Angular Stomatitis or Perleche for short. However, whatever name it can have, Perleche can be caused primarily by fungal and bacterial infections.

So how do you diagnose Angular Cheilosis since we usually have cracks on the corners of our mouth because of over drying of the skin during winter or on very hot weather conditions? The answer is simple. If the cracks or fissures show redness and swelling, tender and sore and usually develop into ulcers or sores at mouth corner, it is almost 100 percent that this is caused by Angular Cheilitis.

This skin ailment can also be diagnosed by your doctor or by your dentist and they can also make an analysis on what caused it. Your doctor can have tissue samples from the sores and have it tested if it is bacterial or fungal in origin then recommend you the appropriate angular cheilosis treatment. For angular cheilosis diagnosis, he will also investigate if you are deficient with certain vitamins or have form of diabetes.

Your dentist, on the other hand, can check if your dentures or your braces are properly fit which can cause saliva to seep through your mouth corners and cause the organisms to grow there. By nature, cheilitis is caused either by fungal or bacterial infection although their existence can be caused by different factors. The fungus Candida is most responsible for yeast infection and then accompanied by bacterial infection once cracks at mouth corners develop. If you are diagnosed with Angular cheilosis, there is not much to worry about this disorder because we can treat cheilitis and it will usually go away after few days. However, if it stays there for weeks and becoming aggravated, better consult your doctor about it because there maybe factors which are contributory to its aggravation.
