Do Something about Granulomatous Cheilitis before It is too Late
If you have been having various cracks at certain areas on your mouth and these have already become very painful, irritating, and even itchy at times, then you might have granulomatous cheilitis. There is that possibility that it would bring discomfort whenever you try to eat or speak. It is important to understand that granulomatous cheilitis is part of the numerous kinds of skin problems that are said to be chronic in nature. This skin problem occurs when your mouth gets dotted with bilateral lesions that are inflamed and you would have to endure pain at the different affected areas.
The angular cheilitis infection that could occur to you may either be bacterial or it may also be fungal. The latter kind of infection would mean to say that you would have shallow crusts in different areas. For the more severe kind, you may even experience bleeding ulcers. Angular glossitis can get worse and this may be due to certain pathogens in the form of bacteria, or it could also be viral or fungal in nature.
Initially, this particular skin problem develops due to deficiencies related to one’s nutrition and the primary cause of granulomatous cheilitis would be a person’s deficiency in Vitamin B-2 or Riboflavin, or B-3 or Niacin. Others would be deficiencies in Vitamin B-6 or Pyridoxine, or Cyanocobalamin or Vitamin B-12. Some people are prone to cheilitis due to Iron deficiency. If you are wearing dentures, you are another likely candidate especially if the dentures do not fit properly. This is because ill-fitting dentures will result to folds as well as friction and eventually your mouth will get irritated.
You may begin to feel that there is saliva building up on the corners of mouth, and when this happens, pathogens may grow in the area. If you have elderly people in your home, or simply within your area, they may also be affected by this skin problem due to their mouth over closure. However, this occurs because of the loss of proper dimension since the elderly no longer have teeth. People who are situated at an area where there are extreme cold weather conditions may also develop this skin problem. There you have it, common reasons why some people get granulomatous cheilitis. Hopefully, this will help you in preventing the disease.
