Vaginal yeast infection may be triggered by multiple factors. There are some home remedies, though temporary ones, which can be used by the affected person herself.
The human body serves as host to certain microorganisms called Candidiasis. If they grow in number, they will result to vaginal yeast infection. These microorganisms usually thrive in moist places, like the vagina. When they are undisturbed, Candidiasis is rendered harmless and when further teamed up with the “helper bacteria”, they will stay harmless.
There are factors, which cause the immune system to weaken, like the intake of antibiotics, imbalanced diet, a stressful lifestyle, and activities that will lessen the effectiveness of antibodies. Before consulting a doctor, yeast infection can be determined through symptoms like vaginal irritation, redness, pain, burning sensation, smelly discharge, and discomfort in the vaginal area.
There are home remedies, which can be applied to hopefully stop the damage done by the infection to the vagina or other parts of the body.
First, plan the daily menu so as to avoid foods, which will worsen the infection. Eat only foods that are fresh, heated, and sugar-free. For external medication, yogurt from goat or sheep’s milk may be applied on the vagina advisably for a minimum of one hour.
A garlic-rich diet and the application of garlic on the vagina itself by wrapping it with cheesecloth and putting it into the vagina for, more or less, two hours will also help. This is because garlic is a known herbal cure because of its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial substances.
Another natural cure would be to wash the vagina with a water solution with apple cider vinegar. This will adjust the pH level of the body into an ideal and safe one, which will stop the growth of Candidiasis, thus curing the yeast infection.
These three tips though are not enough guarantees to become totally infection-free. A holistic approach is needed to ensure complete avoidance of the infection.
If you also want to try other do-it-yourself home remedies you are always free to use them but as a word of precaution, avoid using those that are high in acid content and those products that are scented and unnatural. This is because although vaginal yeast infection can react positively to these unnatural cures, they can also cause irritation and itching to the sensitive areas of your vagina. For safer cure there are still available natural products that are proven effective in putting yeast infection within your control and these are the following.
1. Tea tree oil. This oil is known as a natural antifungal element and can also kill yeasts that live inside the vagina. You can put few drops of it on the tampon and insert it inside the vagina and this application must be done every morning and before bedtime. Two days must be the minimum duration so that there will enough time to stop internal infection.
2. Yogurt. This is rich with beneficial yeasts so if these yeasts will be introduced into the infected area they can be able to inhabit infection causing fungus. You can dip a tampon in the yogurt and insert it in the vagina. You can also do this twice a day preferably in the morning and night until the symptoms of vaginal yeast infections is away. Also it has been proven that yogurt can be a good remedy when used in douching. You can also drink it regularly so that it can be taken as food cures and get rid of Candida infections inside your body.
3. Honey. Although using honey in treating vaginal yeast infection is uncomfortable because it is sticky and gooey, some people have proven that it can do wonders against itching and irritation so it is a good natural treatment against yeast infections. Women can apply it on the affected parts for about 20 to 30 minutes while inside the bathroom and then have a bath with warm water. Men can also use this against oral thrush especially when the symptoms are on the outside of the mouth. Honey was proven to be effective in killing Candida yeasts and has been used even in ancient times for curing skin infections.
4. Vinegar. This is the most renowned do-it-yourself home remedy and prevention against all types of Candida that infect people because of its very potent antifungal properties. Fill a bath tub with warm water and mixed it with one or 2 cups of vinegar. You can soak into it for 20 to 30 minutes and then take a shower. Be sure to dry the vaginal area thoroughly using absorbent paper and not your towel because you must avoid future recurrence of infection.
