Men and Oral Yeast Infection

Of the many things that men of any age should be worried about, oral yeast infection seem to be at the bottom of the list. It shouldn’t be. The infection can be cured easily if you catch it on time, and you can only do that if you know what you are looking for.

How Oral Yeast infection Develops

1. There is a 30-60% chance that you already have the fungus specie that will cause the yeast infection, and it is called the Candida;
2. A factor that may be owed to your action or inaction or entirely an outside intervening variable will affect your immune system and cause it to bog down;
3. When the immune system is weakened, the growth of the fungus intensifies and causes an infection.

What Can Cause the Immune System to Weaken?

1. Lifestyle and hygiene- the stress levels, the food you eat and if you brush your teeth regularly will affect your body’s immune system’s capabilities;
2. Medical condition and therapeutic procedures – diseases or illnesses including the medication you are taking (specially antibiotics) to address the medical problem;
3. Wearing poor fitting dentures.
4. Allergic reactions and other forms of oral irritation.

How to Get Rid of Oral Yeast infection

The first approach is the easier approach, and that is to treat the infection as it arises with cures such as pills, creams, and gargles. It is also short term and non-preventive. The better, but more difficult approach would be on how to get rid of yeast infection through the holistic approach, because this will seek to address the cause of the infection and the contributing factors to it. It’s a better solution because it can see the problem as a whole and not just the irritating parts of it, and thus also give you a longer lasting solution not only to fungal infections but your general health as well.

Fungal infections on the mouth are always associated to men and children and this oral yeast infection is now called the “thrush”. Thrush infects the throat and the mouth and the culprit behind this is the fungus Candida albicans, a type of yeast that has affected and affecting more than half of the population of men all over the world. Normally, men are always protected against yeast infections because of the balance of “good” bacteria in their bodies. On the other hand, if imbalances occur, the Candida can dominate its growing environment and can cause infection particularly on the mouth area which is always moist.

Imbalances occur because of many reasons. First, when the immune system is weakened because of illnesses, this would be the best time for an oral yeast infection to occur. Second, disease and the use of strong oral drugs can also alternately weaken men’s protective barrier which makes them susceptible to yeast infections. Third, diabetes is one major cause why some men are prone to Candida infections and this is because their bodily functions are not normal already. There are also factors why yeast infection syndrome can occur to both men and women. Examples are the prolonged dependency of antibiotics which can weaken the good bacteria that are protecting the skin, excessive use of steroids, due to stress and malnutrition. Wearing ill fitted dentures can also bring about yeast infection to the elder people.

Symptoms of oral thrush in men are not much different with oral yeast infection in women. Usually there will be white, yellow or cream colored raised spots you will see on the surface of their tongues and sometimes pink mucous membranes would appear inside their mouths. When Candida has already infected the throat, there will be pain and difficulty in swallowing. There will also be burning sensation in the throat and the mouth.  In some men, bad breath follows when these symptoms showed up. This gives out the impression that there is a yeast infection going on inside the mouth area.
